Super hero effort for National Stroke Week

Super Hero Effort for National Stroke

Did you know that every nine minutes an Australian experiences a stroke? The Sydney Stroke Rehabilitation Centre at MetroRehab Hospital was proud to raise awareness of this leading cause of disability during National Stroke Week in September by hosting and participating in several events.

Our General Manager Denise Thomas and Stroke & Neurological Programs Manager Lara Fernandez attended the National Stroke Week launch at Parliament House.

Patients, staff and community members came together for our fifth annual Stroke Wellness Walk which raises important funds for The Stroke Recovery Association of NSW. In the spirit of this year’s theme – Recover, Regain and Reclaim – we enjoyed a beautiful walk around Sydney’s Inner West followed by lunch where we celebrated life after stroke, shared stories and promoted awareness of stroke symptoms.

Throughout the week, MetroRehab Hospital staff dressed as super heroes to draw attention to the importance of acting FAST.

Thanks go to our generous sponsor equipment supplier, Patient Handling, and to Stroke Recovery Association board members Linda Glanfield and Jim Towers for their ongoing support. Congratulations go to all our participants!

MetroRehab Hospital also proudly sponsored the NSW Stroke Association conference, Creating Connections, during the week.
